An Automated Data Capture System or ADC system is made up of two parts, the identification device and the reader device. A simple and basic ADC is the bar code that is used in many factories and supermarkets to scan individual products and different items in the retail industry and the supermarkets and the retrieval device for all relevant information is the barcode reader. CCD scanners take a digital picture of the bar code, which is then becomes readable. CCD scanners normally are active and can work from a shorter distance of a few inches whereas the laser scanners can be read from a longer distance.
